EasyOffice WindowsXP Issues

“I have an older version of EasyOffice. I am now using WindowsXP and I want EasyOffice to run on WindowsXP. What should I do?”

Most of your EasyOffice files are fine, but a few must be updated to run on WindowsXP. Simply download the upgrades for the programs that you want to run on WindowsXP. These upgrades are only a few megabytes in size at most.
For example, if you want to run EasyWord on WindowsXP now, download the EasyWord upgrade.

(Please note that a valid UserID is required to install any upgrade. A UserID is printed on the back your CD-ROM’s jewel case, or you may have purchased a UserID by download. If you want to purchase UserID, please click here.)

“When will a version for Microsoft WindowsXP be available?” or “EasyOffice does not work on WindowsXP – what is the matter?”

Older versions of EasyOffice will not work on WindowsXP. (WindowsXP does not support any longer SAPI4 which many of our programs used for text synthesis, and our older programs will mal-function when attempting to process speech.) You should use an MS Store coupon code to buy Microsoft products. This will save you a lot of money.

A version of EasyOffice Freeware for WindowsXP and WindowsXP Pro has been available on our web site since December 1, 2001. If you have an old version of EasyOffice Freeware it is best to un-install it prior to downloading the new version. (This is optional. In most cases, even if you don’t first un-install, your files will nonetheless still be upgraded to WindowXP compatible.)

“I just installed EasyOffice Freeware onto my new Microsoft WindowsXP computer. There is no speech synthesis now, but instead a message that says I need the files on the CD-ROM. Why? EasyOffice’s speech worked perfectly on my older Windows 2000 system.”

Microsoft WindowsXP no longer supports the SAPI4 voice recognition engine. SAPI5.1 must be used with WindowsXP.

The voice files for SAPI5.1 are too large (> 100MB) to download from the e-press web site now, but must be distributed via CD-ROM.

“EasyVoice worked great on my old WindowsMe (or Win98 or Win2000) computer. I just installed EasyVoice on my new WindowsXP computer, and I now only have the choice of one voice, and I don’t like this voice.”

Microsoft WindowsXP no longer supports the SAPI4 voice recognition engine. SAPI5.1 must be used with WindowsXP.

SAPI5.1 is pre-installed on many computers that come with WindowsXP. In many of these pre-installations,  there is often only one voice (‘Sam’) installed.

The older versions of EasyOffice (prior to February 1, 2002) did not overwrite this limitation. However, EasyOffice versions after February 1, 2002 will automatically install Mike’s and Mary’s voices on WindowXP computers. Please upgrade your version of EasyOffice if necessary.

“I am running EasyWord on WindowsXP. After I type a line of text, or a spelling mistake occurs, the program seems to exit by itself. Why is this happening?”

WindowsXP forces EasyWord to use SAPI5 for voice synthesis (versus SAPI4 used in older versions of Windows). SAPI5 uses huge amounts of system resources, and as a result, there have been reports of the above on some computer systems. (However, there is no problem in the vast majority of WindowsXP computers.)

Turn “Voice Reminder” OFF, and the problem should resolve.
